Instagram Reels and TikTok trend tools and MCP servers compared (November 2026)
Updated November 5, 2026
Tools for finding Instagram Reels and TikTok trends come in four kinds: MCP servers that feed video data into your own Claude or ChatGPT (Piratex, vidIQ, Virlo, ShortsIntel, Sandcastles), dashboards with a built-in AI (LiveDune, Virale, TrendSee), raw-data platforms (Apify), and the platforms' own free tools (TikTok Creative Center). Choose by platforms, by whether a video is measured against its creator's usual views, by niche setup, by breakdown by link, and by where you work: a dashboard or your own AI. Then compare language, payment and pricing. Vendor facts were checked on their own sites in November 2026; prices change.
How to choose: seven criteria
- Platforms. Where the tool tracks trends, and where it only breaks down single videos.
- Relative to the creator. A million views for a star and 90,000 for a creator who usually gets 12,000 mean different things. Look for a "views ÷ creator's usual level" metric: Piratex calls it x to median, vidIQ and ShortsIntel use a similar idea called outliers and outlier multiple.
- Niche. Name it in plain words, pick it from a fixed list, or build a creator list by hand.
- Breakdown by link. Transcript, hook, scenes, frames, comments: without them you see what took off but not why.
- Where you work. A dashboard with its own model, or an MCP server inside Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, where your own AI writes the conclusions.
- Language, market and payment. Interface, currency, accepted cards, and whose content is covered.
- Pricing model. Subscription, prepaid credits or pay-per-usage: compare the cost of one trend request and one breakdown.

The tools one by one
Piratex
A short-video trend radar and an MCP server for your own AI. trending_now returns Instagram and TikTok videos in your niche that beat their creators' usual views, with views per hour and comment rate. A niche not yet in the database is built in 5–10 minutes with up to 50 creators. xray_video breaks down a video by link (Reels, TikTok, Shorts, YouTube, posts, carousels), and get_profile shows a creator's last 12 videos with x to median. Your own AI does the reasoning. Niche trends from the database cost 20 credits, a new niche 1 000, a full X-ray 300, a profile 40; the Start plan is 2 000 ₽ a month for 5 000 credits.
vidIQ
Mostly known for YouTube research. The vidIQ Instagram page lists Reels ideas for your niche and a Reel Analyzer (hook, pacing, retention). Per the vidIQ MCP help article, it covers Instagram profiles, Reels and outliers, and TikTok for outlier research. It works with Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code and other clients and is listed in the Claude connectors directory. Pricing: Free with 150 credits a month, Boost $19 a month, Max $49 a month.
Virlo
Virlo is short-form video analytics: trends plus creator and competitor tracking across TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels and Meta ads. Its connector is in the Claude directory with OAuth sign-in (virlo.ai/claude), and calls are paid with credits. Pricing: Starter $49 a month, Pro $199 a month, API only on Enterprise.
ShortsIntel
ShortsIntel is an MCP service with no subscription. It computes a creator baseline (median views, engagement rate, frequency) and, for Reels under 30 days old, the multiple of that baseline, percentile and velocity. It covers TikTok, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram, with OAuth sign-in for Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and VS Code. Prepaid credits cost $1 per 1,000; new users get 1,000 credits for 90 days. Its setup is close to Piratex, in English and USD.
Sandcastles
Sandcastles helps you research top channels, find outlier videos and remix them: hooks, transcripts, breakdowns and scripts for Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts. The MCP connector comes with the Pro plan ($49 a month, 100 credits). The site does not say how outliers are calculated.
LiveDune
A Russian analytics, monitoring and scheduling service for 15 social networks, from 2,300 ₽ a month with a 7-day trial. Its separately sold trends module shows top Reels, VK clips, Shorts and TikToks across 13 niches, sorted by views per day, from Russian and CIS content. Its MCP server uses a token, is documented for Codex and Claude Code, and reads your accounts, posts, statistics and scheduled drafts; trends are not mentioned there.
Virale (ChatPlace)
Virale is ChatPlace's AI agent for Instagram: a feed of viral videos in a niche, Reels breakdown by link with a transcript and an adapted script, storyboards and editing. The models run inside the product, MCP is not described on the page, and the pricing page shows no prices.
TrendSee
TrendSee finds viral Reels and TikToks in a niche, breaks them down and writes scripts based on ChatGPT. MCP is not mentioned. The Russian landing page lists a price from 1,690 ₽.
Apify
Apify is a scraper marketplace. apify/instagram-reel-scraper collects Reels metrics, captions and recent comments; clockworks/tiktok-scraper collects TikTok videos, profiles and subtitles. With the Apify MCP server your AI finds and runs Actors itself. You get raw data and do the niche and outlier math yourself; a separate viral-outlier-finder Actor helps with the latter. Plans: Free with $5 of usage a month, Starter $19 a month.
TikTok Creative Center
The trends section shows trending hashtags by industry and period, and for each hashtag a trend line, videos, audience and regions. It is free and built for advertisers; check that your country is available. The separate TikTok for Business MCP server is for ad accounts, not trend research.
When Piratex fits
- You want your niche's Reels and TikTok trends inside Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor or VS Code.
- Your niche is narrow or new: a niche missing from the database is built in 5–10 minutes.
- You need to know why a video took off: the X-ray returns a timestamped transcript, the hook (first 3 seconds), scenes, 8 key frames, the top 50 comments and an
adaptbrief. - You study competitors' funnels. As of November 2026 we did not find other tools describing two things: flags for "comment a code word, get a DM" videos with a guess at the word, and late bloomers (videos reviving 2–10 days after posting).
When Piratex is not the right fit
- You need a YouTube Shorts trend radar. Piratex tracks trends on Instagram and TikTok only; YouTube is for breakdowns by link. Look at vidIQ, Virlo or ShortsIntel.
- You need an English interface or USD billing. The Piratex website is in Russian, and paid plans are billed in rubles by Russian bank cards only. The MCP tools themselves work in any language you use with your AI.
- You need analytics for your own account. Piratex reads only public videos and profiles; a service like LiveDune fits that job.
- You need raw data at volume. Use Apify or another scraper.
- You don't have an AI subscription. Piratex has no text model of its own for new users; Virale and TrendSee write scripts inside their products.
FAQ
What are the alternatives to vidIQ for Instagram Reels?
For Reels and TikTok data inside your own AI over MCP: Virlo, ShortsIntel, Sandcastles and Piratex. The first three are in English and priced in USD; Piratex is in Russian and priced in rubles. For raw data, use Apify.
Which MCP server should I use for TikTok trends?
For niche trends and breakdowns of other creators' videos: Piratex, vidIQ, Virlo, ShortsIntel or Sandcastles. For raw TikTok data: the Apify MCP server. The TikTok for Business MCP server is for ad accounts, and many "Instagram MCP" servers work only with your own account.
Are there free options?
TikTok Creative Center is free but TikTok-only. vidIQ has a Free plan with 150 credits a month, ShortsIntel gives new users 1,000 credits, and Apify has a Free plan with $5 of usage a month. Piratex gives a verified account 600 credits a month, enough for 30 trend requests, plus 1 000 bonus credits for 30 days for new accounts.
How is x to median different from outliers in vidIQ or ShortsIntel?
The idea is the same: compare a video with its creator's usual level, not raw views. Piratex uses the median views of the creator's last 12 videos; ShortsIntel builds its baseline from median views, engagement rate and frequency. Check vidIQ's help center for its formula.
Does Piratex work in English?
The tools do: ask your AI in English and get answers in English. The website is in Russian, and paid plans are billed in rubles by Russian bank cards only. For USD billing, look at vidIQ, Virlo or ShortsIntel.
To try it on your own niche, connect the Piratex MCP server to Claude or ChatGPT and ask: "What's taking off in my niche right now?"
