How to find viral Reels and TikToks in your niche with Claude or ChatGPT

Updated November 5, 2026

To find viral Reels and TikToks in your niche, don't sort by raw views: look for videos that beat their own creator's usual numbers several times over, ideally across several creators at once. Claude and ChatGPT can't see Instagram or TikTok on their own, so connect a data source to them over MCP (for example, the Piratex server at https://piratex.ai/api/mcp), ask "What's taking off in my niche right now?", and let the assistant group, break down and adapt what it finds.

What "viral" means for a niche

Raw views mostly measure account size. For a big creator, 300,000 views can be a flop; for a small one, 30,000 can be the best video of the year. To find ideas that work, measure each video against its own creator:

A niche trend is not one lucky video. It is a hook, format or topic that beats the median for several creators in the same niche within a short time.

Why Claude and ChatGPT can't do this on their own

Web search in an assistant finds pages and articles, not data inside social apps. Instagram and TikTok show videos, counters and comments to signed-in users in their apps; a crawler usually gets an empty or trimmed page. Even with a link, understanding a video means transcribing speech and looking at frames, and saying that a video "took off" requires the creator's recent history and regular measurements.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) solves this. It is an open protocol, introduced by Anthropic in November 2024 and now supported by Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code and other clients, that lets the assistant call an external server for data. You add the server once, and the assistant decides when to use it.

Free ways to do it without AI

These work and cost nothing but time:

  1. A spreadsheet. List 10–30 creators in your niche. For each, write down the views of their last 12 Reels from the Reels tab of their profile, compute the median with MEDIAN, and divide each video's views by it. Sort everything by x and watch the top 10–20.
  2. A working account. Create a separate account and only watch and save videos from your niche. Over time the Reels feed and For You page lean towards it.
  3. TikTok Creative Center. Its free trends section shows popular hashtags, sounds, creators and videos, filtered by region and period. It is built for advertisers, and not every country is listed.

The limit of all three: they either take hours every week or show absolute popularity, where a small creator's breakout is easy to miss.

Step by step with Claude or ChatGPT

This walkthrough uses Piratex, which supplies the data while your own AI does the reasoning.

  1. Connect the server. In Claude: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, paste https://piratex.ai/api/mcp, sign in to Piratex and press Allow. In ChatGPT (on chatgpt.com from a computer): add your own MCP server with the same address and OAuth sign-in; on the free ChatGPT plan the option may be missing. In Claude Code, run the command below.
  2. Name your niche. Use plain words, as narrow as you like: "skincare for men", "wedding photography", "home workouts for women over 35". The assistant finds it in the catalog of niches and sub-niches and can save it for you.
  3. Ask for trends. The assistant calls trending_now and returns Instagram and TikTok videos that are getting unusually many views compared with their creators' usual numbers, with x to median, views per hour and comment rate. If your niche isn't in the database yet, Piratex builds it in 5–10 minutes: up to 50 creators, first finds within a couple of minutes.
  4. Group by mechanics. Ask the assistant to cluster the videos by hook type, format and topic, and to separate mechanics that repeat across three or more creators from one-off hits.
  5. X-ray the best two or three. xray_video returns the metrics, a timestamped transcript, the hook (first 3 seconds), scenes, 8 key frames, the top 50 comments and a guess at any code word.
  6. Adapt, don't copy. Ask for a brief in your own words: same structure and hook mechanics, your facts, examples and voice.
  7. Repeat weekly. Check what's new and look for late bloomers.

Prompts to paste

What's taking off in my niche right now? Niche: home workouts for women over 35. Show x to median and views per hour.
Group these videos by hook type. Which mechanics repeat across three or more creators?
X-ray the strongest video: hook, script by timestamps, scenes, and the top questions in the comments.
Show the last 12 videos of this creator with x to median and tell me what the top three have in common. <profile link>
Write a brief for my own video using the same mechanics. My topic: ... Use my facts and my voice, don't reuse their text.

What it costs

Piratex runs on credits. Trends for a niche already in the database cost 20 credits per request, a brand-new niche costs 1 000 (the first new niche is free on a verified free account), a full X-ray costs 300 and a creator profile 40. The free tier gives a verified account 600 credits a month, which covers 30 trend requests, and a new verified account gets 1 000 bonus credits for 30 days. Requesting the same data again within 24 hours is free, and failed or empty requests are refunded.

Two honest caveats for international readers: the Piratex website is in Russian, and paid plans are billed in rubles by Russian bank cards only. The MCP tools themselves work in any language you use with your AI.

FAQ

How many views does a Reel need to count as viral?

There is no universal number, because it depends on account size. Compare the video with the median of the creator's last 12 videos: a video several times above that median has taken off for its creator, even if its raw views look modest.

Not reliably. Their web search finds pages and articles, while fresh videos, view counts and comments inside Instagram and TikTok are usually out of reach. Connecting a data server over MCP gives the assistant that data.

Does this work for YouTube Shorts?

The method does: x to median works on any platform. In Piratex, niche trends and creator profiles cover Instagram and TikTok, while YouTube Shorts and long YouTube videos can be broken down by link.

Do I need a paid ChatGPT or Claude plan?

In ChatGPT, adding your own MCP server is done on chatgpt.com from a computer, and the option may be missing on the free plan. In Claude, check whether Connectors is available in Settings on your plan.

Is it OK to copy a viral video?

Copying word for word is someone else's work under your name. Take the structure, the hook mechanics and the format, and keep the facts, examples and voice your own.

To try it on your own niche, connect the Piratex MCP server to Claude or ChatGPT and ask: "What's taking off in my niche right now?"
